🏥 Understanding Medicare

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people aged 65 and older, as well as certain younger individuals with disabilities. It helps cover essential medical services like hospital care, doctor visits, and prescription drugs, depending on the plan you choose. Understanding how it works is key to getting the right coverage for your needs.

What Does it Cover?

Part A (Hospital Insurance): Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care.
Part B (Medical Insurance): Covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage): Helps cover the cost of prescription drugs.
Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C): An all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare that often includes extra benefits like vision, dental, and hearing.

📅 When Can You Enroll?

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): Starts from October 15 to December 7.
Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): Starts three months before the month you turn 65, includes your birthday month, and ends three months after.
General Enrollment Period: January 1 to March 31 each year, if you missed your IEP.
Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs): Available if you qualify due to certain life events, such as losing other health coverage or moving.
Open Enrollment Period (OEP): Starts January 1st to March 31st. This is an opportunity for those that have enrolled in a Medicare advantage plan. You have one chance to change your Medicare advantage plan ( part C) or drop your MA plan and stay with original Medicare and add a prescription drug plan (part D).
